Meet Ricky

It finally came out this morning. We were taking about the Jolie-Pitts and their high profile adoptions. Many think they do it for the attention. There are many of us who don't do it for the attention, but I finally cracked and had to tell you about Ricky, the smooth little Asian boy who lives in my basement. He's a good kid with many skills and an explosive laugh.
It's nice to finally share this after 7 years of keeping it a secret.
He loves Apple Jacks and crushed pop bottle caps. He also loves playing canoe soccer.

trip to port a

Good times in Port Aransas. This was my little birthday weekend getaway. Much too short. That drive sure seems longer when pulling a vintage Airstream behind you. This was our first real bonafide roadtrip with the Airstream. For those of you who don't know, I have a thing for classic Americana from the 50's and 60's. Cars, furniture and of course the old fashioned American vacation. The Park we stayed at was so much nicer than I even expected. It's called Pioneer RV park on Mustang Island. There was only one other vintage trailer there, so I felt a bit out of place, but loved it. Most of the RV's there are the full on buses with slide outs, probably in the 300k 500k range. I can't believe what people have into RV's. I loved the nostalgia of our little Airstream. Sort of the Harley Davidson of Travel Trailers. We had a great time on the beach. My daughter never wears out. We thought we finally cracked her toward the end of the day. She started to fall asleep on the bike. When we stopped riding, she laid down on the lounge chair and we though she was going to nod off. Seconds later, she popped up, at a hamburger and was right back in the water. We had a great time with my sister Steph and her family.I think we have found the second best burger on earth behind Crown and Anchor. It's at a place called Fins by the Marina where most of the fishing tours take off. The second night we went to a great family owned German Restaurant called Marcel's. Absolutely loved it.There's something special about Port Aransas and that part of the Texas Coast. A lot of beach vacations can turn into a high end one upsmanship. This is a very down to earth, family sort of place to go. The kids don't know the difference between staying at the Ritz Carlton or 40 bucks for a night in the park. In fact, I think most 5 year olds would prefer the park by the beach.Of course we had to hit all the cheesy beachside shops and let my daughter pick out a bunch of nautical crap. She got a habitat for a hermit crab she found on the beach. At some time between her finding the crab and us buying a home for the him, the crab packed up his shit and moved out of the shell. She still thinks he's in there, but I don't know how much longer that will last. We'll see.

We got a lot done in a short amount of time. the car is looking so much more original minuse the flarred side whell wells. His dad bought this car and new and it's been used for noth but racing. It's running great and a killer connection with my buddy larry and his dad that he lost. What a cool thing.

More from ACL Fest

ACL Fest was impressive for 2007. Great to hear all those great band but one of the hightlights was to head over to the Airstream. I whipped up some Elgin Sausage wraps for everyone and started quite an outrageous fire. The food was good and our freind Morris, was incredibley entertaining as usual. Great festival this year.

ACL Festival

Hanging with some friends at the Airstream during ACL Festival. I think this was just before the tequila kicked in and it got weird.... mostly for me.

Only in Austin

I was heading down to the Barton Springs area today. I hit the intersection at Lamar and Caesar Chavez and this dude was waiting patiently to cross the intersection. Only in Austin would this be no big deal. Pretty sweet thong. I think he waxes.

More... Flight of the Conchords- Jenny

Every now and then something comes along that is so brilliant it blows you away and makes you feel completely uncreative. This is one of them. Enjoy.

Business Time

Amy Winehouse

Here's more proof that Amy is the real deal. Things are not looking good for her to show up at ACL Festival here in Austin in a week and a half. I was really looking forward to seeing her.
What an amazing talent. I hope she finds her happiness and figures out what she's supposed to do. What an amazing gift.
